Beware of dry grass

When preparing your shelter, be it a tent or improvised shelter, be sure to situate it away from dry grass. A forest fire can occur when you are asleep and you might not be able to escape. There are several such cases in the provinces where campers were burned to death when a forest fire occurred when everyone in the campsite was asleep. Better safe than sorry, place your shelter on green grass or no grass at all.

 

This is one that almost certainly goes under-prepared for or not thought of enough. It reminds me of a particular trip in the badlands, where we almost lost a lot of stuff due to a simple error like this.
