I remember skimming through this book in a store a while back and coming close to buying it. Its called "Don't Step on the Dirt" by Ryan Elson and basically it talks about the adventure the author has travelling through the western United States. It includes all sorts of info on the parks he visits and a bunch of neat historical facts on the surrounding areas. A lot of them are previous Civil war battle sites.

Camping at a civil war battle site would be fun and creepy at the same time. I have friends in VA who are reenactors and they have all sorts of spooky civil war battle ground tales to tell. That sounds like it could be a nice twist to traditional camping.
