Here is one of my favorite things to take on the trail as a snack, or for breakfast when camping. It is easy to make ahead of time and stores well, and easily eaten hot or cold with powdered milk.

    Homemade Granola
    • 4 cups of uncooked oatmeal
    • 2 1/2 cups raw wheat germ
    • 1/2 cup coconut
    • 1/2 cup raw sunflower seeds
    • 1/2 cup honey
    • 1/3 cup salad oil
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix the first four ingredients in a large greased pan. Add honey and mix to distribute thoroughly. Add oil and vanilla and mix again. Bake in a slow oven (300 degrees), for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Let cool. Add nuts and raisins if desired.

If it's a cold in the morning pour hot water on the granola and add milk for a tasty hot cereal.

Sounds delicious, I love warm cereals. Another thing that is great about them besides being nutritious and giving you the energy to keep going is that they mix well with almost anything. You can add whatever flavoring you want to suit your preference, fresh fruit, or nuts. I've even had it with bits of shredded up jerky.
