Got up early and started off for Grandfather Mtn. First we walked around the mile high bridge before starting the hike to McCrea Peak. I hate to admit that it wasn't quite a mile, but it was challenging. Pictures 2 thru 6 is taken at the bridge. Pic 6 shows the parking lot and where the trail starts on the platform. Pic 7 is the start of the trail. The blue blaze can be seen painted on the rock. I keep the pictures in order as we went up. 20180629_072726.jpeg 20180629_102013.jpeg 20180629_102125.jpeg 20180629_102526.jpeg 20180629_102610.jpeg 20180629_102631.jpeg 20180629_103116.jpeg 20180629_104809.jpeg

More. The 4th pic is looking up at McCrea point. 20180629_115901.jpeg I don't want to hear any fat jokes either. 20180629_112004.jpeg this was maybe the last level spot. It starts to get brutal after this. Stay tuned got a few more. 20180629_105116.jpegView attachment 4761 20180629_110140.jpeg 20180629_110006.jpeg 20180629_110943.jpeg 20180629_111053.jpeg 20180629_111343.jpeg 20180629_111641.jpeg 20180629_112240.jpeg 20180629_112412.jpeg 20180629_112937.jpeg 20180629_113134.jpeg 20180629_113602.jpeg 20180629_113757.jpeg 20180629_113920.jpeg

Continued. The last 2 pic are why these are called the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Blue Ridge Parkway could be seen from atop.View attachment 4778 20180629_113931.jpeg 20180629_114925.jpeg 20180629_115112.jpeg 20180629_115821.jpeg 20180629_115536.jpeg 20180629_120418.jpeg 20180629_120428.jpeg 20180629_120722.jpeg 20180629_120726.jpeg 20180629_120910.jpeg 20180629_120925.jpeg

Last one. We climbing back down. Walked up on a snake, some type of non-venomous snake. Had its head stuck down in a crack in the rock. It zipped on off after my wife touched it's tail. I hope you enjoyed the pictures. 20180629_123601.jpegView attachment 4791 20180629_122805.jpegView attachment 4793 20180629_102449.jpeg

Thanks for posting the pics. They made me feel like I had a short tour of the place. That mile-high bridge is surely scary because the way it looks it is swinging when you walk fast or if you are heavy with your feet. But the signage clearly says that it can take a heavy load of up to 40 persons or maybe just 40 elves? The view above is breath-taking and I wish I would be able to see that mountain trail in person.

Thank you Alexandoy, they sometimes close the bridge due to high winds. When we went last year, we could hear the wind whistling through the girders from a ways off. I thought some one was playing music.
