Strange, I thought...

In the last little while, we have seen
snow, rain, ice pellets, fog, really cold and delightfully mild temperatures,
high winds, bright sunny days and grey miserable ones.
It was the perfect time to be out for a couple of nights of hot tent camping.
Strange, I thought, as I lay in my cozy winter sleeping bag watching
shadows of the flames dancing on the tent walls, it seemed summer like.
The aroma of burning maple transported me to another place and time - it was a good feeling.
All was quiet; beautifully silent and peaceful.
I miss Reese (my black Lab) who would leave his dog bed and jump up
onto the cot and sleep beside me.
I tucked into the warmth of the bag and snuggled into the pillow as I would Reese
    and was soon fast asleep.
