Using a long rope for children hikers

This is not exactly for boy scouts but for school children who are brought to mountain trails just for the experience. You know the school children particularly those in grade school that they are sometimes wild and rowdy. Teachers handling 10 pupils each will not be enough when there is a problem like sudden rain or even a landslide. Using a rope as sort of connecting all the children in the team or troop will save the teacher the trouble of looking after stray kids. Just one look at the rope will give her the number of children holding on to the rope. I guess this is also effective for adults who are not well versed with the terrain.
