The hugely popular site is a Scandinavian favourite. The two hour hike is a breeze compared to the dizzying 2,000 foot (604 M) drop from the plateau at the top.

Took morning hike yesterday morning on our local city park. a69fa95111bb50c1e766bf95b782a2a2.jpg The otter came out to greet us when we passsed by his personal pond and habitat area, as we headed for the trail head that lead around the lake. 518aebac7d3a170cc39e6c22ab11e9b1.jpg Sometimes we see deer at the edge eating on the vegitation, but I think they had breakfast before we got there. 6de256ac2342236fe2409139a71d78f1.jpg The grey wolves starting howling about an hour into our walk. We started at 9 and the Rangers get the wolves howling at 10. I wish I knew how to record and post how it sounded echoing in this high mountain valley. 3ae63f6dd20d3a354d9359cf4d4e887c.jpg We snuck off the trail and quietly walked out a peninsula where a beaver den was, I felt at home there. The beavers must've been napping to, so we continued on. c6926112ea8edb4ff38c98954aa49737.jpg . A wooden bridge across a beaver pond. The Rangers do a great job keeping this city maintained. f42ae9ce21b746f5df5390f457e051e1.jpg Had a snake shoot across trail in front of me, and he lunged for his frog breakfast. Startled us and made us back peddle quite a distance. He was very fast. Must've been stalking the frog and took a shot before we scared his breakfast off. 2nd snake I almost stepped on this week. Well I did step on the first one, I came home from work as usual about 7am, and it must've been laying just under edge of back door. I didn't think to look down to check for snakes.? I think I stepped on it when I came across threshold and rolled him in the house under my sandal. It didn't like it anymore than I did either. I got the door open and the snake out.

It was a great morning for a couple of mile walk. We got back before it got to be 90 degrees out, and went for luch.

    (b) Guianan savanna, a road shared between Venezuela and Brazil; tourists usually camp alongside the road since it was conveniently built near all the watering places..

Those titanic sized rocky formations you see on these pictures (a and b) over yonder are called "tepuis". One of the most ancient table-top or "Mesa" mountains you can find on earth.

Guiana or "Guayana" is one of the greatest and also oldest cratons (a.k.a a crust of mantle rock that makes everything on its surface practically earthquake-proof) on Earth. That place quite resembles those prehistoric lush rainforests we usually see on documentals and educational material; only just without all the gigantic bugs and reptiles from carboniferus fauna but with anacondas, humongous armadillos, harpy eagles, jaguars and ocelots instead.

There is a National Park called "Canaima" over there, located between Venezuela-Brazil borders. Nowadays is a camping hotspot for thousands of tourists in South America; but decades ago, it wasn't that easy to cross miles of lush rainforest to reach at least the "Guianan savanna", since the paved road didn't exist until early nineties. My family used to do a trip across driving a 4x4 jeep through the dirt road and cross over water bodies to finally reach the National Park and find a suitable place to settle a camp.

Kakadu National Park is an enormous, biodiverse nature reserve in Australia’s Northern Territory. With terrain encompassing wetlands, rivers and sandstone escarpments, it’s home to some 2,000 plant species and wildlife from saltwater crocodiles and flat back turtles to birds. Aboriginal rock paintings, dating to prehistoric times, can be viewed at sites such as Nourlangie, Nanguluwur and Ubirr.

Sometimes the best Trails are in our own back yard so to speak. In my neck of the woods I'm approximately two hours from one of the wonders of the world. There are well groomed trails and interesting places to visit on both sides of the United States/Canada boarder. It is a mecca of entertainment and fun. The place? =====>

LOS GLACIARES NATIONAL PARK IN ARGENTINA CELEBRATES ANOTHER ANNIVERSARY

The park’s northern boundary is a cluster of soaring, sharp-toothed peaks, including the forbidding Mt. Fitz Roy. Dominating the southern stretch is the awe-inspiring Perito Moreno Glacier, a towering wall of ice grinding a path through the Patagonian Andes. Its terminus, where the glacier flows into Argentina’s largest freshwater lake, is 5 km wide at an average height of 74 m above the lake’s surface.

As the powdery blue glacier advances, the ice often gives way with a resounding crack, plunging into the chilly lake and calving enormous icebergs. This dramatic ice fall makes it one of the park’s most popular tourist attractions. Visitors can also hike across the rippled surface of the glacier.

Los Glaciares National Park was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1981, as an area of outstanding natural beauty and an important example of the geological processes of glaciation.

The Appalachian National Scenic Trail, generally known as the Appalachian Trail or simply the A.T., is a marked hiking trail in the Eastern United States extending between Springer Mountain in Georgia and Mount Katahdin in Maine. The trail is about 2,200 miles or 3,500 km long, though the exact length changes over time as parts are modified or rerouted. The Appalachian Trail is the longest hiking-only trail in the world. More than 2 million people are said to do at least one day-hike on the trail each year.

I bet some of our Camping Babblers have been on this trail.

Winter in the Smokey Mtns at Mt LeConte. I had all kinds of pictures when my wife and I went, but they are on the computer at home. The Alum Cave Bluff trail is the shortest trail up there. They make deliveries with lamas, but they start at the top of mountain on the Appalachian trail. It's a longer hike but less steep for the lamas. You can reserve a cabin, but I think there is a year long list. They have a dinning hall for the guests. They have propane heat and lights, the tanks are flown in by helicopter. The only way in or out is by hiking, unless you get seriously hurt, then they will fly you out. These pictures are photo shopped. 224127b62409f78898dca8f962a4b44c.jpg 806b319ac197f4ccdc4e918ab8007b9c.jpg e7a3acab6edd7c3190231d4b2f74d350.jpg 3a8347317a05de287afc0c2f299c4767.jpg 244f0293cb984817265aa57865c7012b.jpg 1ff4cfd47451ca173f706a7dc51827ce.jpg 9d1f4be54f143f547dd5ce754514ef9d.jpg

This is where the Appalachian trail crosses the Watauga lake dam. Sorry, I wasn't about to go hiking this morning. I was on the lake goofing off. It was 27°F with a stiff wind. The trail in the woods was hard to see, but I saw someone wearing a red jacket running on it. The trail climbs up to the crest of the mountains once it leaves the lake. 4fb37191c687a01d117e1e2f929f156b.jpg cac26e45487d076622c10055fd2e37ab.jpg
