Young bamboo shoots

The bamboo shoot is a delicacy in some countries and commonly eaten in this tropical country. Most of the mountains that I had been have bamboo groves scattered all over. Those living there say that bamboo is very important to them. Aside from the many uses of bamboo, what I like is the bamboo shoot. It is not easy to get bamboo shoots when the grove is big because the bamboo has thorns. We boil the bamboo shoots to augment the rice that we have. It's only recently that I learned that bamboo shoot is best eaten when broiled. That's a pretty good food when you are in the woods.
